Chole Masala for MLLA # 57


We all have our own ways of preparing channa masala.While cooking u get lot of ideas to experiment ,this is an usual channa except that i have grinded some raw onion.Saute some onions grind them to a paste and use it in the gravy.It gives a smooth texture.
 

Ingredients

  1.  Channa - 1 cup soaked overnight
  2. Potato-2 big,
  3. Onion-1,chopped
  4. Tomato-2 ,small ,pureed
  5. Ginger & Garlic paste -  1 tsp
  6. Chilli Powder-1  tsp
  7. Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  8. Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder - 1/4tsp
  10. Salt as needed
  11. Oil-3 tbsp

Whole Garam Masala

  1. Cardamom -2
  2. Cinnamon-1
  3. Bayleaf-1
  4. Saunf- 1/4 tsp

To Grind-1


Heat oil ,add the onions and saute for 5min.Take it in a bowl and let it cool .
  1. chopped onion-1/2
  2. sauted onion - 1 /4
Grind them into fine paste.

Method

  1. Pressure cook channa and potato without salt for 4 whistles,they shld be firm when cooked.
  2. Heat oil,add the whole garam masala,when it splutters 
  3. Add the chopped onions,saute it for 5min,then add the ginger garlic paste and saute for 1min.
  4. Now add the grounded onion paste and stir well.Take care that it should not stick to the bottom.
  5. Cook for 5min.Add the tomato puree and stir ,cook for 5min.
  6. Add all the pwds ,salt and  cook for 2 min.
  7. Add 2 cups of water and let it boil.
  8. When it boils,add the mashed potato and stir.
  9. Now add the cooked channa dhall.
  10. Cook for another 10min in medium flame till all the raw smell goes.
  11. Completely simmer for another 5min.
  12. Garnish with corriander leaves
  13. When serving add a dash of lemon and chopped red onions.
  14. Best served with Puri,Chappati.
