Chow chow and channa dhall are good combination.I usually prepare with only yellow moong dhall , i tried using channadhall ,it tasted so delicious. This is the perfect combo for any tamarid gravy(rasam and pulikulambu) and pappad.
Ingredients
- Chow Chow - 1 ,peeled & chopped thin and small
- Channa dhal - 5tbsp
- Yellow moong dhall - 1 tbsp
- Greenchilly - 2 ,slit
- Garlic - 1 pod
- Hing - 1/4 tsp
- Coconut grated - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Urad dhall - 1/2 tsp
- Onion - 1 -finely chopped
- Red chillies - 1 split
- Curry leaves - 5 leaves
- Oil - 1 tbsp
Method :
- Pressure cook channa dhall and moong dhall with garlic, hing and turmeric powder for 3- 4 whistles.
- The Channa dhall should be cooked well .Keep it separate
- In a pan add 3/4 cup of water ,chow chow and slit green chillies and cook till the chow chow is 3/4th cooked.
- Add salt and the cooked dhall and mix it well
- Let is boil for another 5min.
- Now add the grated coconut and stir it well ,that it mixes with the vegetable
- Take it off from heat.
- In a separate pan ,prepare for seasoning.
- When oil is hot ,add mustard seeds after it splutters ,add urad dhall.let it turn golden brown
- Now add the curry leaves , red chillies and saute for a second
- Add the onions and fry till it turns golden brown .
- Pour it into the top of the chow chow.
- Dont over cook the dhall
- Dont overcook the vegetables ,else it wont retain its shape. The vegetables will take 10 min to cook .
- So you can check after 8 min.
- When coconut is added ,it should not be cooked more than 2 sec,as the flavour will change completely.
