Urad dhall Vadai


This is another yummy snack ,which kids love it.This Vadai is a crispy and yummy snack.I make it atleast once in  month ,as my kids love it and very healthy too.

Ingredients
  1. Urad dhall - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Rice flour - 1tsp
  3. Small onion - 10 nos ,chopped finely
  4. Curryleaves - 5 nos,chopped
  5. Jeera - 1/4 tsp
  6. Pepper - 1/4 tsp
  7. Salt as needed 
  8. Ginger - 1/4 tsp , grated
  9. Oil for frying

Method :

  1. Soak urad dhall for two hours.
  2. Grind it into smooth batter adding less water.
  3. Before taking the batter out , add the whole jeera and pepper .And let it grind for 3 seconds.
  4. Scoop out the batter and put in the bowl.
  5. Add salt , small onion,rice flour and mix it well.
  6. Heat the oil for frying ,when a small piece of batter is dropped it should rise to the top immediately.
  7. You can use cling flim /plantain leaf.I dipped my left hand in the water , and take a small ball and make a gentle pat ,a make a small hole in the middle.
  8. Slide into the hot oil,cook both sides till golden brown.
  9. Serve with coconut chutney and sambar.

Tips

  1. The batter should be smooth .For 1 cup of dhall , u can add 1/4 cup of water.
  2. The batter shouldnot be too runny or too thick.
  3. You can chilly for adults , small kids feel it too spicy.
  4. You can add grated carrot too.
  5. If small onions not available ,big onions can be used.
  6. Grinding in grinder , makes the batter too soft .Mixer grinder can also be used.
  7. Dont add salt while grinding , the batter wont flow well.
